What happened?

If you visited me yesterday this is what you would have found.

This blog has been archived or suspended for a violation of our Terms of Service.

I was whisked away to realms unknown in a puff of smoke. Well, I presume that’s what happened. I waited all day for my scheduled posts to appear – and nothing happened. I was as surprised as you might have been to discover I’d ‘gone’. The message I received on my dashboard was most ‘unenlightening’, and it took three contact emails before I finally received a response.

A little while ago I received an email:

‘Your site was flagged by our automated anti-spam controls. We have reviewed your site and have removed the suspension notice.’

So no indication of what was considered ‘dodgy’ etc, but I did receive the statutory apology too:

‘We greatly apologize for this error and any inconvenience it may have caused.’

Thanks to those of you that expressed concern and offered support. I thought I had better explain today’s ‘capture the moment’, and warn you – it could happen to you…….

  1. It DID happen to me a couple of years ago. I had imported an older blog to my current one. Somehow, the images in the old had not attached to their posts, so it looked like I had imported a huge bunch of unattached images. It was quickly fixed though … their support was much better back then.


    1. It’s a shock, isn’t it. I just don’t know what caused this, it would help if they were a little more specific. I’m putting down to experience, definitely.

        Back then, their support was swift, a guy got in touch with me right away and explained what had happened. Now, they’ve cut back on that … instead they rely on the forums, so they let users helping other users …when possible.


      2. In a case like this, I wouldn’t have gone to the forum. They can’t do anything. There, you have to wait and in the best of cases, a staff person comes by… can take ages, if you get any response at all..


  2. OMG that’s scary! I’m glad you got this fixed. Where did you find an email address for the WP people? I needed to find it recently and all I could get to was their forums, which can be useless depending on what you need.


    1. There was an ‘appeal’ form which resulted in an email, but I agree, it is hard to find one. I think there is something linked from the dasboard, I’ll see if I can find it later and let you know.


      1. Go to settings – general – scroll to bottom, click ‘support’

        Once again down to the bottom – ‘contact support’

        Next page scroll down again, to ‘I didn’t find the right answer’

        I think that’s as far as you need to go – but you get the idea… It will get you there in the end.


  3. Can’t begin to tell you how relieved I am that you’re back! Yours wasn’t the only site I follow that had been suspended/archived. I think a little autobot ran amok in the WordPress kingdom.


  4. I had gotten that message about your blog and assumed it was a fact. I dislike these types of things immensely. The helpless feelings are astounding. It’s as if we do not own our own words here. I have been tempted to dsicontinue blogging because of incidents like this. I seems like the blog world has too many people who hack into blogs or e mails just for fun. Well, fun it is not. Glad to see you back and that your results turned out okay.


    1. Thank you for commenting. Yes, it was a shock, because I too thought it was fact, but couldn’t see why. Then same happened to my photo blog. That’s back too, but I lost followers on both, and I can’t blame anyone for believing the announcement. Thanks for coming back.
