Soup, soup, glorious soup?

I think I’ve used that title before, however, it’s almost safe to say that I’m up to my elbows in the stuff…….

I’ll just use two words……………..

Freezer problems…………………..

So, in an effort to make sure that nothing is wasted I’ve been making and making….. soup.

Our little grandson doesn’t like peas.  It must be inherited – I don’t like peas either.  At least, I don’t like frozen peas.  Last time my other half shopped he decided to buy some frozen beans.  Miraculously, by the time he got them home, they had transformed into peas!  So one of the things that had to be dealt with was an ENORMOUS bag of semi-frozen peas.  Luckily I like pea soup, so with a few additions it was a quick and easy solution.

There were bags and bags of raspberries, blackberries and redcurrants too.  These are now all jammed.  Jammed into jars, of course!  What fun!  Oh yes, and I made more soup…..

Frozen mixed vegetables always look very much the worse for ‘wear’ (another purchase in error), so I added a mountain of fresh ones

(doesn’t steam play havoc with the camera lens!) and some homemade chicken stock.  At least we’ll be getting our ‘5 a day’ with no trouble!

Now, where was I?  Oh, yes, over the stock pot.  See you all tomorrow.

  1. Love pea soup and I would not want to be in your shoes at the moment.
Fortitude Badge for doing all this today; and just when did you have time to look at all that stuff I put up?

  2. I have problems with the camera lens steaming up. I have lots of soup ingredients, but sometimes it upsets me; I suspect the onions. It sometimes makes my salivary glands swell too. I’m going out on Wednesday and so I’ll make soup on Thursday. I’ll ply safe in the meantime; egg ‘n’ chips tonight! 🙂

      1. The photos are quite good, if a bit steamy! I don’t like marrowfat peas but like garden peas. My soup will probably be alright, I’m not risking it yet though. I’m getting more problems with the cold, must wear gloves too!

  3. I started freezing soup for the two of us when I couldn’t get a ‘half’ recipe to taste as good as the whole. Now I make the full recipe and after we’ve enjoyed a good meal of it, I freeze it up in jars that hold enough for two healthy servings. Enjoy!

  4. Wow … that’s a shame about the freezer trouble!
I don’t have any problem with peas, except pea soup. That’s the only food I don’t eat. They forced me as a child.

  5. Not only did the freezer malfunction lead to a great post, but you’ll probably be eating healthy soup for awhile. Way to go Myfanwy!
