Dear Mr Postmaster General

Sadly, I won’t get a reply.  The postmaster general has been a non person since the late 1960’s.  It was a grand title, and relatively personal, so if I had written to him it would at least have felt as though he had actually read it.

We haven’t had a postman since September 2010.  For some unknown reason our small round is added on to others as an afterthought.  There are two postmen who deliver with care and attention when it is their turn, there are others who just don’t bother.  Complaints have been made by a variety of people and answers have been given.  Interestingly enough no two given answers have been the same.  The local sorting office isn’t interested.  The manager will not answer his phone, and the desk clerks don’t care as it’s ‘nothing to do with’ them.  However, we have been assured that all will be well by June 2011 when we will have a new postman.  It is now December and the situation is still the same.

Strangely enough, though, there is one day on which we can always guarantee a delivery.

We always get something on a Sunday!  Today it was two packages that had been posted, First Class, at the beginning of the week.

Isn’t overtime a WONDERFUL thing?

  1. Hi Myfanwy,

In the 60’s my boss and my MP was the Postmaster General, I always thought he was a bit slippery. I saw him in London once in unsavoury company. He was caught up in scandal later and it wasn’t unexpected. He even faked his own suicide! We get dodgy politicians now ; but John Stonehouse was before his time… 🙂

  4. Many times out here in the country, mail sent from your mailbox does not arrive at its destination; especially if it looks like a greeting card! Now I make it a point to drive to the Post Office and mail it there. So Far, so good.

  5. I have a feeling that the post office is going to change again. I have just moved into a new house, and I am 45. Well our mail is put inside our house (the old fashion) way. I love it. Other than that, I have not liked the service for years living in apartments.
