…. to nuvofelt.
If you have read my profile you will know that part of it reads
‘Nuvofelt refers to a fabric that I invented and instructions can be found in my book ‘The Embellisher: Let’s Get Started’ which was the first main book about the embellisher’
So, firstly, what is an embellisher?
It’s a machine that looks like a sewing machine. However, instead of having a needle with a hole, and using thread to combine or decorate fabrics, it has a collection of needles with barbs. These work up and down to create new surfaces. No thread is involved, and it is the easiest of machines to use, allowing creativity to flourish, even in those who didn’t know they had any!
I waited a long time for my machine. They were available in the USA long before they arrived here in the UK, so I had time to think about what I could do when I finally owned one. Nuvofelt is the result of some of that thinking time.
This piece is actually featured on the cover of the book. It is made with the sheerest of sheer chiffon (the piece I used was hand dyed) with fine hand dyed viscose fibres. It’s a time consuming process, but well worth the effort as the resulting fabric can be used for clothing or scarves etc. I sometimes teach workshops on the subject, so if you want to learn…….

I often wondered about the name. Thank you for explaining.
Vivid colours, and such beautiful textures. I’ve learnt something new today!
Thanks. That’s very cool, nuvofelt.
Now that looks like a lot of fun!!! Thats so exciting. Love the pinks and purples and texture in that piece in the picture.
Beautiful fabric! I love the intense colors and the great texture! Thanks for sharing this
Excellent and glad to meet you again… I love the yarn and the creativity behind what you do. Keep it up. From one Brit to another… though I live in the USA.
a book! fabulous! you’re an author in addition to everythingelse you do. so many nuances to your glittering personality…like a diamond.
Now I know we have are related, I’ve been creating felted fabric with the embellisher for some time now, I just love the textures and colours that occur when the fibres mingle. That piece looks beautiful, I love the ‘bubbled’ effect, just like pebbles on the beach and those colours are just scrumptious.
Hard to believe that this was made from chiffon. It looks like wool, very textured, not as fragile as chiffon would have been. Nice work!
